Services for James Lacey "Jimmy" Hawthorn, 57, of Lufkin, were held Tuesday, Jan. 11, 1994 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Hawthorn was born Jan 11, 1937 in Nacogdoches and died Jan. 9, 1994 in a Lufkin hospital. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lufkin.

Mr. Hawthorn lived in Timpson until he was five with his parents, the late B. J. Hawthorn and Hazel Ethel Lacey Hawthorn. He attended elementary school in Cushing. From there he moved to Kilgore in 1946 where he graduated from high school in 1955. He started to college at Kilgore. He was employed at Kilgore Ceramics from 1955 until the fall of 1959, at which time he was drafted into the U S Army. During his tour of duty he was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, where he met what was to become his lifelong best friend Joe Heery of Long Island, N.Y.

Mr. Hawthorn met his wife, Glenda Rae Byrum from Stigler, Okla., in December of 1961. They were united in marriage on May 5, 1962, after which they decided to make Lufkin their home. He started to work as a gasoline transport truck driver for Lacey-Hollis Oil Company. While still employed by Lacey-Hollis Oil Co., he started to work for Southland Paper Mill in May 1968 where he remained employed for 25 years as a computer operator.

Survivors: wife, Glenda Rae Hawthorn of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Donna Kay Hawthorn Athey and Gleen Jr. of Lufkin; son Michael Ray Hawthorn of Lufkin; grandson, Arthur Gleen "Trey" Athey III of Lufkin; granddaughter, Candace Shea Athey of Lufkin; mother, Hazel Lacey Hawthorn of Lufkin; brother, Joe Terry Hawthorn of Houston.

Mr. Hawthorn was preceded in death by his father, B. J. Hawthorn in 1961.
