Gesina was born in Illinois on July 27, 1889 to Andreas and Wilhelmine (Holtz) Schurmann. Her mother died when she was just six years old. She was raised by her step-mother Anna Marie (Sielmann) Schurmann. The family moved from Illinois to Hildreth, Nebraska in 1889. On March 11, 1909 she married John Evers. The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. Gretzler and witnessed by her brother Carl Schurmann and sister-in-law Marie Evers.

John and Gesina were blessed with one son, Herman J. Evers in 1911.
Gesina contracted typhoid fever and died on August 4, 1913 in Hildreth, Nebraska. She was buried at St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery.
