Kermit King "Holly" Hollingsworth was born to James "Jim" William and Lula Mason Hollingsworth in north Texas at Whitewright, Texas. He was called to be a Methodist preacher as a teenager and went as a singer to help with evangelistic tent meetings from north Texas to the Texas Panhandle in the early 30s.
He graduated from North Texas State Teacher's College (now UNT) in Denton, Texas with a Bachelor's Degree and completed the Divinity Degree at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. In college he was called "Holly" by his friends and fellow preachers.
He joined the Methodist Church Texas Conference where he served for 20 years at the following churches: Lovelady 5-point circuit, Tomball, Linden, Athens, Palestine First, Galveston First, and Grace Methodist Church in the Heights, Houston, Texas.
While at Lovelady he met and married Opal Murriel Gray on June 23, 1941. They had four children: Linda Sue, Llewellyn, Kermit King Jr., and Deborah.
Kermit transferred to the Oklahoma Methodist Conference in 1957 and served in the following United Methodist church locations: Oklahoma City Crown Heights, Duncan First, Woodward District Superintendent, El Reno, Okmulgee, Tulsa Sheridan Avenue, Claremore First, and Perry. While at Woodward, he received an honorary doctorate degree from Oklahoma City University, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Kermit died on his 66th birthday in Enid, Oklahoma.
