BOOK----[1909] PA--Mercer County History-pg 801-803 reads: Mrs Margaret Brockway's sibling is... WILLIAM G ARTMAN, another brother of MrsBrockway, gave 3 years of his life to his county's defense. He enlisted 1 Aug 1862 in CoG, 102Reg ILVol Inf & was first sent to FrankfortKY then to Bowling Green & passed the fall & winter with his company at GallatinTN. The following spring his company was assigned to arduous scouting duty in the vicinity of Nashville & soon afterward his regiment participated in all the campaigns & battles of the southwestern army until they reached Atlanta & the sea.

WILLIAM G ARTMAN: VernonTwp; died Sunday at his home after an illness of several weeks. He was born near Jamestown 7 Oct 1842 & served 4yrs in the UnionArmy, with an excellant record as a soldier. He was a man of unusually happy temperment, was both loved & esteemed by all who knew him. He was for 30yrs a member of the PresbyterianChurch. He is survived by his wife & 1 son: AW Artman-the latter residing in Meadville. Services will be held Tuesday at the residence, on Wednesday the remains will be taken to Jamestown for interment. {Interment in ParkLawn Cem}
