Bruce N. Boley, son of Sylvester and Luella Brown Boley, was born February 12, 1896, near Hillsboro, and departed this life Friday, January 14, 1977 at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 80. He was married to Helen Miller who preceded him in death in 1967. A brother, Glenn, a sister Zoe, and two infant sisters also preceded him in death.
Remaining to cherish his memory are a daughter, Louise and son-in-law, Ralph Johnston, of Baring, Missouri, three grandchildren, Susan, Craig, and John Johnston, a brother, Burch of Hillsboro, two sisters, Mrs. Paul Ruby of Ottumwa and Mrs. Rex Miller of Bonaparte, other relatives and many friends including special friends Mrs. Alice Meek and Bill and Sharon Brauns. Bruce's life was spent farming in the Van Buren County.
He was a member of the Hillsboro Baptist Church, Keosauqua Lodge No. 10, Ancient Free and Accepted Mason, York Rite Masonic Bodies in Ottumwa, and the Keosauqua Rotary Club.
Throughout his life he was active in numerous civic activities, and he will be remembered as one who did his part in all community efforts.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 16,1977, at 2 pm at the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church north of Keosauqua, with the Rev. Lester Smith of the Hillsboro Baptist Church and the Rev. Harold Schnedler, pastor, officiating. Keith Gaston was soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Gaston. Honorary pallbearers were Alva Anson, Wayne Davidson, Tom Teal, Edward Pickering, John Vass, Clyde McElhinney and Harold Johnson. Active bearers were Dean Beresford, Carl Hohl, William Brauns, Dr. C. R. Perkins, Merle McDonald, and Miller Blair. Interment was in the Hillsboro Cemetery with Masonic Rites by Keosauqua Lodge No. 10. Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, was in charge of arrangements.
