Michael was born in Union City, Champaign, Ohio to Jacob and Amy (Jones) Westfall being their 2nd child, and their first son, with 5 more sons born after him.
On August 19, 1862 he joined the Union Army and was in the 45th Infantry Company "H", along with his brother Newton Crawford Westfall. He mustered out in Camp Harker, Tennessee on June 12, 1865.
After coming home he was united in marriage with Rebecca Jane Guyton in Union City, by 1866. To this union there are 6 known children, three sons and three daughters.
He became a widower when Rebecca passed away February 27, 1881 and she is buried near her in-laws, with her daughter Annie beside her, who had died at the age of 10 from diphtheria.
In September of 1885 he and two brothers with their families left the town they were born in and began their families in Ohio. They went by train, all arriving in Bertrand, Phillips, Nebraska on the 19th of that month. His brother Amos, who had moved before them picked them all up at the train. Which not long after brought lumber Michael had bought and had shipped. He and his children were in their new house on the prairie of their farm by the time winter had set in and he also made sure that his children went to the near by Tracyville school.
1892, after 11 years of being a widower, at the age of 53 he married the widow Nancy Jane (Hulit) Manies, in Nebraska. Town of their marriage is unknown.
At age 61 in the 1900 census they are in Fairbury, Jefferson, Nebraska, having left the Bertrand area.
1914, Michael Blue passed away at the age of 75, leaving his children, Grandchildren, siblings and wife to go on in life without him.
He and Rebecca's children are listed with Rebecca on her memorial. No children were born from 2nd marriage to Nancy, though he had 10 step-children, from her 2 other marriages that had left her widowed.
