Emilee Gaillard was born on May 11, 1923 in a log cabin located in Hawkinsville, Pulaski County, Georgia.
While working at the Thomaston Cotton Mill in Griffin, Georgia, she met Charlie Benjamin Sampler. In 1943, Charlie enlisted in the U. S. Army. He and Emilee corresponded during the war and continued to date when Charlie returned to Griffin. They were married on January 05, 1946 at the home of Rev. Clarence Chambley,and lived with Emilee's parents until they purchased their first home on Magnolia Drive.
In 1951, Charlie and Emilee built a new home at 206 LaPrade Road in Griffin, Georgia and began their family. They had three children: Katrina Diane, Kerry Benjamin and Karen Deanna.
Emilee worked at several of the knitting mills in Griffin until she became a stay-at-home mom. She was always actively involved in her children's lives, transporting them to their various activities. She worked with Charlie at their family business, Sampler's Service Station, helping to run the store part of the business and keeping the books. She was also very active in church work at North Griffin Congregational Holiness Church serving as Church and WM Secretary for a number of years. She helped in planning many of the church activities and suppers, and was very supportive of the youth ministries. She had a gift for benevolence and was always doing for others, whether it was caring for an ailing father, visiting the sick, cooking for the family of a child dying with cancer, or bathing and caring for an elderly sister in Christ. She and Charlie also enjoyed working in the huge garden they planted each year. They always enjoyed sharing their bounty with others.
Emilee died from Malignant Melanoma on June 21, 1982 at the Griffin-Spalding County Hospital. She is buried at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Griffin, Georgia.
