A Good Woman Gone.

In out last issue we gave an account of the serious runaway by which three ladies were hurt and Mrs. F. S. Cox fatally. As stated then Mrs. Cox received such a fall as to render her unconscious, and from which she never completely gained consciousness, though at times she gave evidence that she did understand things that were said to her. Her condition remained about the same with slight variations that served only revive hope or intensify the feeling of despair until about 9 o’clock Wednesday morning when the end came, peaceful and quiet as the fading twilight.

Born in May ’52, and being of a strong constitution, Mrs. Cox had only reached the meridian of her life and the morning of her usefulness; for having profited by her rich experience in the nurture and culture of a large family, she stood ready to instruct, encourage and guide the footsteps of so many that need such wisdom, and with her naturally even temper and well balanced intellect tempered with that love that comes from God, and sweetened with the graces of a true Christian, she became at once a powerful influence in social and religious circles – a balance wheel in her family and a sheet anchor in the church. Next to her husband and with her children, her pastor will feel most keenly the loss of this faithful woman, but al with whom her life was in any way interwoven will miss her.

Her poor husband who had learned to rely with the confidence of love on her wisdom and counsel will sadly miss the gentle restraint and the words of encouragement as an incentive to action. He will miss the happiest place to be found on earth – a home presided over by a wise, virtuous and Christian wife and mother, to him and to his sorrowing family we extend our heartfelt sympathies.

The remains were laid to rest in the City cemetery at 10 o’clock yesterday, where they await the coming of the judgment day. A procession half a mile long gave evidence by their presence of the esteem in which deceased was held.
