Birth: 1778
Massachusetts, USA
Death: May 19, 1865
Franklin Grove
Lee County
Illinois, USA

Son of Elijah and Hannah (Townsend) Brown of Rensselaer Co., NY. Probably born in Hancock, Berkshire Co., MA, or possibly in Lanesborough, MA, per an old letter. He served as a private in Captain David E. Gregory's Company, Lt. Col. Caleb Carr's Regiment, New York Militia, in the War of 1812 (Battle of Plattsburgh).

Nathan Brown married Willoughby Phillips on January 1, 1800, per family records, in Rensselaer Co., NY. They remained in the county until 1836, when Nathan purchased land in Stockton, Chautauqua Co., NY. They stayed there until at least 1850, where they are on the census there. By 1860, they had removed to Franklin Grove, Lee County, IL, along with several of their children.

Their children were Adah Brown m. Abel Peckham; Belinda (or Yolinda) Brown m. David L. Wagar; Daniel Grey Brown m. Emily Jones; Cornelia Brown m. Stephen Stetson Peckham; Rev. Orsamus Phillips Brown m. Aurelia Ames; Martin Townsend Brown m. Mary Rowley; Josiah Quincy Brown m. (1) Ursula Keith and (2) Nancy Elizabeth Brace or Waite; and Nathan Ingham Brown m. Sophia Hart.
