Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Fred G. Richards, 91, died May 30, 1994 at his home.
Born August 12, 1902 in Pleasant Grove, Utah to James and Harriet Smith Richards. He married Gwen Mathews April 10, 1930 in Evanston, Wyoming; marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
Fred graduated from Pleasant Grove High and BYU, where, known as "Frosty", he excelled at basketball and cross- country run. He coached basketball at Wasatch, Fillmore and Delta High Schools and was principal at Scipio Elementary. Fred lived most of his life in American Fork, where he coached basketball and taught biology at American Fork High, and P.E., math and health at American Fork Jr. High. He was a faithful member of the LDS Church, and served as an ordinance worker in the Provo Temple.
His greatest joy was his family. He loved all sports and was an avid golfer. He loved the outdoors and kept a beautiful yard.
Survived by his wife of American Fork; six children: Carol Nicholes of Ogden; Fred (Beverly) of American Fork; John (Gayle), of Salt Lake City; Steve (Carol) of Bluffdale; Rosemary (Brent) Lind, Alpine; and Anne (Larry) Bowen, Pleasant Grove; 26 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday June 3, at 11 a.m. in the American Fork 6th Ward, 320 North 100 East. Friends may call Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, Thursday 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Burial in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
