Ray Lowell Young, of Alpine, Utah, died peacefully on Thursday, November 17, 2011 from complications following a successful bone marrow transplant.

Born March 8, 1956 in Salt Lake City, Utah, Ray graduated from Murray High School in 1974.

He married his eternal sweetheart, Christine Probert, in the Salt Lake Temple on April 17, 1980. Ray graduated from BYU in 1983 with a degree in Information Communications.

Over his lifetime, Ray worked many jobs, including Murray City personnel, Adjunct Faculty teaching at Brigham Young University, owner and president of Omnitrak Learning Systems, and most recently a marketing career with Adaptive Computing.

He was an excellent writer and teacher, with a lifelong passion for the English language. He taught hundreds of students and seminars throughout the world.

Ray was a master craftsman and enjoyed working with his hands. He loved restoring and custom-binding books and scriptures, a skill he learned from his father.

Ray took great pleasure in the outdoors, and loved leading his children, ward-members, and boy scouts on week-long backpacking expeditions into the Escalante wilderness.

He was also a music enthusiast, loving everything from classical to good old cowboy western. He himself played the accordion, organ, and piano.

Ray served faithfully in the LDS Church in many callings. He loved scouting, and had a great love for and firm testimony and understanding of the Gospel and the workings of the Priesthood.

Preceded in death by his parents J. Lowell and LeOra Hess Young, and parents-in-law, Marion and Beverley Probert. He is survived by his wife and best friend Christine; children Chad Lowell, Wendy, and Adam William Young; granddaughter Cora Leigh Young; sons-in-law D. Levi Hunt and Quayle M. Chew; daughter-in-law Whitney Young; siblings Candy, Melody Dunn, and Von (Renae) Young; and in-laws Kathi (Jeff) Labrum, Steve (Judy) Probert, Mark (Jenn) Probert, and Jack Dunn.

Viewings will be held on Friday, November 25, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary in Murray, and Saturday, November 26, 2011 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the LDS Hillside Chapel in Alpine, Utah. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Hillside Chapel.
Interment will follow at Wasatch Lawn, Salt Lake County, Utah.

You have fought a good fight, you have finished your course, and you have kept the faith. We love you, sweetheart, dad, and brother. Courageously fought.
