Sgt. William Lee Anderson, 18, of Templeton was killed May 27 in Vietnam while engaged in combat operations. He had served with the US 60th Infantry Division near Saigon. Born June 8, 1950 in Boggs township, he was the son of Leroy and Evelyn(Slagle) Anderson. He would have been 19 years old Sunday. Sgt. Anderson lived most of his life, previous to his military service, in the Templeton area, went to school at Templeton Elementary, attended Dayton High School until his senior year and then he enlisted in the US Army where he received his diploma. He enlisted in the Army June 9, 1967, took his basic training in Fort Jackson, SC and his advanced training at Fort Dix, NJ. He was graduated from Non-Commissioned Officers School at Fort Wainwright, Alaska and completed Cold Weather Operations Course at Fort Greely, Alaska. In March 1969, he went to military duty in Vietnam. He had received the Sharpshooter's Badge, Good Conduct Medal, and also the Silver Star for action, in May 1969. He was also proposed for the Bronze Star just before his death. He was a member of the Church of God in Templeton. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Anderson, Templeton; six sisters, Mrs. William (Kathy) Tatsak Jr., Templeton, Mrs. Michael (Cherry) Stonebraker, Dayton, and Shirley, Peggy, Dawn, and Jill Anderson all at home; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Incel Anderson, Kittanning. Recently deceased were his other grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jared Slagle, formerly of Templeton. A brother, Thomas Anderson was killed in 1954 in an auto- bicycle accident. Friends will be received at the Bauer Funeral home, Kittanning tomorrow at 2 p.m. and until Sunday at noon. The remains will be removed to the Church of God, Templeton where a military funeral service will be conducted. Officiating will be Rev. C. Richard Main. Interment will follow in the Cochran Cemetery. Leader Times, Kittanning June 1969
