Birth: Mar. 24, 1979
Wood-Lynne
Camden County
New Jersey, USA
Death: Jul. 17, 2008, Afghanistan

1st. Lt. Jason Mann of Woodlynne, New Jersey graduated from Collingswood High School before entering the Marine Corps on Nov. 3, 1997. Jason graduated from the University of South Carolina with a finance degree and from his Marine Corps officer's class with top honors. He enlisted in the Marines in 1997, serving as an Arabic linguist and in a reconnaisance unit, which is the Marine special forces. He received an officer's commission in 2005. He had served at least one tour in Iraq before deploying to Afghanistan. Jason hoped to finish 20 years in the Marine Corps and then, using his leadership skills and educational background in finance, become chief executive officer of a company. Jason was the father of two young children, and was married to a Marine. Jason was the honor graduate of his Officer Candidates' School class and recipient of the physical fitness award. His other awards and decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal; two Good Confuct Medals; Iraq Campaign Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation; and two Sea Service Deployment Ribbons. His hobbies included running, competing in triathlons, crew, bowling, snowboarding, football, softball, hockey and, above all, spending time with his family and friends. Jason is the brother of the former Camden County Republican freeholder candidate William Mann, an Iraq War veteran, a Haddon Township resident and a member of that municipality's school board. He died from a non-hostile incident in Helmand province, Afghanistan at age 29.
