Stuart Morgan Goss was born January 7, 1893, the youngest of fourteen children, seven boys and seven girls, born to William J and Amanda (Graybeal) Goss. He was born in his parent's first Fruita home, which was a two story frame house about four miles north of Fruita in the Highpoint School District near the Adobe School. He went to school at the Adobe School for six years, graduated from the 8th grade, then attended High Point High School in Fruita, quitting in the middle of his 11th grade to go to work as a cowpuncher, branding and driving cattle.

Morgan married Rose Pritchard November 8, 1919 in the Congregational Church in Fruita, Colorado and traveled by train for their honeymoon in Salt Lake City, Utah. They lived on the farm until 1945 when they moved to Grand Junction. After leaving the farm Morgan worked as a carpenter, building on military installations in Utah, Washington, and Alaska.

Morgan was a long time active member of the Order of Odd Fellows in Grand Junction. He and his wife Rose were both members of the Grand Junction Historical Society and senior citizen volunteers. Morgan was also a superb pool player.

Six children were born of this marriage, William Nelson, Richard Morgan, Clinton Curtis who died of whooping cough when he was eight months old, Zeta Irene, Betty Jean, and Douglas Keith.
