Birth: Jul. 30, 1946
Cannon County
Tennessee, USA
Death: Nov. 29, 1968, Vietnam

He was the son of Ray and Maude (Parker) Basham. Harold was married to Patricia Duncan on September 6, 1963. She was from McMinnville, Tennessee. When Harold left for Vietnam, she went home to stay in her hometown. This is the reason McMinnville is listed as Harold's home of record. He actually was from Woodbury, Tennessee. His tour of duty in Vietnam began on August 30, 1968, and his rank was E4 as a member of the United States Army 25th Infantry Division (RECON PLT, HHC, 1ST BN, 5TH INF RGT, 25 INF DIV). Harold was killed in action as a result of hostile action (booby trap grenade) in Hua Nghia, South Vietnam. When he died his rank was Specialist, and he was awarded a posthumous promotion to Corporal. Harold is honored and remembered on the Vietnam Memorial Wall on Panel 37W - Line 3. His medals include The Combat Infantry Award and The Purple Heart. He was named after his grandfather, Hiram Lawton Basham (1895- 1970). (bio by Sue)
