Funeral services for Sgt. Matthew D. Berryhill, 38, of Fort Hood will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dennis officiating. Interment will be at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Killeen, TX. July 31 with full military honors. Mr. Berryhill died July 21, 2009 at a local hospital. Mr. Berryhill was born on May 26, 1971 at St. Louis, Mo.
Mr. Berryhill graduated from Central High School in Springfield, Mo., joined the U.S. Army and served four years, and he then went into the U.S. Army National Guard, for a time. Then he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and after five years he re-enlisted in the Army and was assigned to the Fourth Infantry Division at Fort Hood. His awards include the Army Commendation Medal with OLC, Navy Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal and many others; he had deployed to Iraq seven times. Survivors include his wife, Nichole M. Berryhill, Fort Hood; sons, Jace A. Berryhill, Springfield, Mo.; Nathan R. Berryhill, Fort Hood; daughter; Amber C. Berryhill of Fort Hood; father, John Mendenhall, Salem, Mo; brothers, Mike Berryhill, Republic, Mo.; John and Mark Berryhill, both of Springfield, Mo.; sisters, Laura Ervin and Nancy Cole both of Springfield, Mo. Mr. Berryhill was preceded in death by his mother Beverly Ann Parsons. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2009 at the funeral home. Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen is in charge of arrangements.
