Marine Cpl. Allbaugh was assigned to 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California. Allbaugh died from wounds sustained when the humvee in which he was riding struck a roadside bomb in Qaim. From the time Jeremy was small growing up in Harrah, Oklahoma, he always wanted to be in the military. At Halloween he dressed in fatigues and had camouflage backpacks for school. In 2004, he graduated from Harrah High School where he was a member of the school's baseball team. He was a great baseball player, a great student and a great athlete. Before graduating from high school, he joined the Marines – just two months shy of his 18th birthday. Immediately after graduation he entered the Marines. During his service Jeremy received the National Defense Medal, the Global War of Terrorism Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon and the Purple Heart. His unit had been in Iraq about four months. He told his family that the Iraqi people loved them because they were helping them – they were building schools and hospitals. Jeremy loved what he did and loved his country. He believed in what this country was doing.
NOTE: Jeremy is the nephew of Joe Allbaugh, a business consultant and former director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency during President George W. Bush's first term in office.
