Reuben Seybert was the son of Henry and Elizabeth Shakely Seybert. Reuben married Mary Hoffman Reynolds in 1859. They had 12 children: Blanche, George, Henrietta, Robert Wallace, Lou Eva, Edmund, Joanna, Arthur Leroy, Reuben Jr., Charles R., John H., and Lucy.

Reportedly, Reuben swam from Seybertown, along the Allegheny River, to Red Bank to court Mary.

Reuben Seybert, who died at Templeton, Dec 12, 1908, was born at Brady's Bend, Armstrong Co., Penna. October 2, 1831. He died of paralysis. The deceased is survived by his wife and nine children: George, of Trafford City, Robert, of Rimersburg, Pa., Edward H., of Allegheny City, Pa., Reuben R., of Templeton, Pa., C.R., of Syracuse, N.Y., John H., of New Kensington, Pa., Mrs John Porterfield, of Sherrett, Pa., Mrs G.W. Fleming, of Rimer, Pa., and Mrs James Yates, of Red Bank, Pa., also four brothers, thirty-six grand children and three great grandchildren. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kittanning, Pa. He was a quiet, unassuming man, respected by all who knew him. A kind husband and father; he died in the triumphs of the Christian faith. The funeral was at Red Bank and was attended by a large number of relatives, friends and neighbors.
