BRAZIL DONALD ANTHONY Died Monday, October 21, 2002 at U.C. Davis Medical Center in Sacramento at the age of 71 years. He was born June 3, 1931 to Antone and Florence Brazil in Niles Canyon in the Warm Springs area of California. He graduated from San Francisco State with a degree in education. Don was a veteran serving in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. He did farming and ranching, raising cattle from the 1960's until the early 1990's. He ran a trucking business and worked 16 years as a teacher last working for Mule Creek State Prison in Ione. He enjoyed his grandchildren and supported them in their various activities and sports. He was a very active member of several organizations; Native Sons of the Golden West, Lions Club of Ione, and VFW of Ione. Don was actively involved with Arc of Amador and Calavaras for the past ten years. (Arc serves people with developmental disabilities). Don served on Arc's board of directors since 1992 and was president of the board from 1993 to 1995. He was the local Arc's governing board representative to Arc California from 1993 to 2002. He was a strong advocate and voice for the small rural chapters serving on a variety of committees at the state level. He was a tireless recruiter for Arc membership and dedicated fund raiser for all Arc events. Don took an active interest in people with disabilities and then took action to make their lives better. He is survived by his sons, Jim Brazil, Bruce Brazil, and Garth Brazil all of Ione; mother, Florence (Brazil) Stonecypher of Turlock; brother, Robert Brazil of Turlock; grandchildren, Justin, Eric and Haylee brazil all of Ione. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Jan Brazil in 1995 and his father, Antone Brazil. Friends are invited to attend a visitation Friday, October 25, 2002 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at Daneni Mortuary in Jackson. A rosary and mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, October 26, 2002 beginning at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ione. Interment will be in the San Joaquin National Cemetery in Gustine, California. Memorial contributions may be made to Arc, 75 Academy Dr., Sutter Creek, CA 95685. The family requests that friends refrain from sending any condolences, cards, or calls to Don's mother, Florence. Arrangements are being handled by Daneri Mortuary in Jackson, Ph. 209-223-0793.
