Melvin B. Fenno, 86, of Crookston died Sunday morning June 26, 1994 at the Villa St. Vincent Nursing Home in Crookston.

Mel was born on August 10, 1907 in Berlin, North Dakota, the son of Elton and Cora (Blatchford) Fenno. he attended rural schools He worked for several years at the Equity Elevator and Trading Company in Berlin.

He married Irene Reader on August 11, 1930 in Edgeley, North Dakota. over the years he worked in various elevators in many different locations, including: The National Atlas Elevator in Coleman, South Dakota, and Wabasso, Minnesota; the Farmers Elevator in Danube, Minnesota, Olivia, Minnesota, Kalispell, Montana, and in Berlin, North Dakota, the Peavey Elevator in Wheaton, Minnesota and in 1953 in Crookston at the Crookston Milling Company and the Crookston Farmers Elevator. He managed in the majority of these areas. Irene died on October 8, 1965.

He married Fern Fries on April 1, 1967 in Crookston. he retired in 1969 and until 1973 he worked in custodial department at Central High School in Crookston. He also worked for several years at the Houske Funeral Home in Crookston.

He was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of Crookston, the Crooskton Eagles Aerie, the Golden Link Senior Center and the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Fern; six daughters, Lorriane Wieser, Trenton, Illinois, Betty Anderson, Crookston, Connie Thelen, St. Cloud, Jeanne Fenno, Las Vegas, Mary Hagelle, St. Cloud, and Margaret Eastby, Findlay, Ohio; five sons, James, Milwaukee, Jerry, Crookston, Tom, Apple Vally, Steve, Milwaukee, and Mike, Mount Vernon Washington, 40 grandchildren 33 great grandchildren; five brothers, Bill, El Paso, Jack, Norfolk, VA, Elton Jr., Milton Freewater Oregon, Max, Jamestown and Howard, Wichita, Kansas; a sister, Maude Tetzloff, Milton Freewater, Oregon; eight stepchildren, Delores Welch, Minneapolis, Eilene Wilkens, Crookston, Ronald Fries, Waukesha, Wisconsin, Francis Fries, St. Paul, Valerie Sullivan, Hudson, Wisconsin, Gregory Fries, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Linda Deckon, Atlanta, and James Fries, Fort Meyers, Florida; and many step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; Irene; and two sisters Ruth and Erma.
