Thomas J. Tate
Arrived in Dakota Territory 1859; after the war lived in Yankton where he operated a water service that supplied water to the citizens for 25 cents a barrel; never married; died at the Soldiers Home in Hot Springs, S.D. April 1, 1910. He preserved the written war reminiscences of Lt. Col. John Patte who commanded Dakota military forces campaigning against the Indians during the war period. Patte had written them down during his last years, while also at the Soldiers Home. These were later published by the state.
