William Russell Parnell
Birth: Aug. 13, 1836
Death: Aug. 20, 1910

Indian Campaigns Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. A native of Ireland, Parnell was awarded his CMOH for action on June 17, 1877 at White Bird Canyon, Idaho as a 1st Lieutenant in the 1st United States Cavalry. His citation reads: "With a few men, in the face of a heavy fire from pursuing Indians and at imminent peril, returned and rescued a soldier whose horse had been killed and who had been left behind in the retreat." After the campaigns, Parnell would eventually reach the rank of Major and Brevet Colonel. (bio by: G.Photographer)
