Leslie "Big Boy " H. Houston, Sr. , age 59, of 446 Hickory Hills Rd., Church Hill found peace and eternal joy with our Lord and Savior after departing his earthly life early Wednesday , May 16,2007 at the Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital & Medical Center following a sudden illness. Leslie was born in Elizabethton,Tn. and had lived most of his life in Hawkins County. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in 1969 and spent the majority of his life traveling across the United States as a truck driver. He was known for being kind hearted and willing to help anyone in need. He had a passion for trucking and his influence will be felt for years to come on his family and many friends. Leslie first found his love of trucking after returning home on leave while serving in the United States Navy. A trucker picked him up hitchhiking and agreed to take him home to Surgoinsville, Tn. from Washington DC as long as he agreed to drive the distance, thus his love for trucking was born. His other interests included U.T. football, NASCAR,fishing and classic cars.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Mrs. Shirley Price Houston of the home, Four sons, Leslie & Susan Houston of Rogersville, Kelvin & Kristi Houston of Surgoinsville, Chris Houston and Eric Houston both of the home. Five grandchildren, Leslie Michelle Houston, Jacob Houston, Justin Houston, Jacen Houston and Jaden Houston. His parents, Ben & Gloria (Edwards) Houston of Surgoinsville. One brother, Mickey Houston of Surgoinsville, Three sisters, Faye Blackman and Bennie Carithers both of Fort Worth, Tx., Teresa Greer of Surgoinsville. several nieces and nephews.
