Robert Leon Hunget enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1942 from Norwalk Iowa. Completed recruit training at MCB San Diego. Assigned Headquarters Company, Service Battalion MCB San Diego. Promoted to PFC. Reassigned Headquarters Company 1st Battalion 24th Marines 4th Marine Division as Company Clerk (MOS 055) MCB Camp Pendleton. January - February 1944 participated in combat operations in the Marshall Islands. March 1944 Camp Maui Hawaii. Promoted to Corporal. May 1944 left Pearl Harbor invasion of Marianas. 15 June 1944 landed on Saipan D-Day and Killed in Action. Initially buried in the 4th Marine Division Cemetery on Saipan with permanent burial 21 March 1949 National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific Honolulu. (bio by: Cape Gloucester)
