He was Mustered Out on 6/12/1865 at Nashville, TN
He participated in 22 Engagements, and was with Sherman on his famous Campaign, being under fire constantly for days.

Joseph Cortright Died Sunday Morn at Shenendoah, IA
N A Cortright has received notice of the death of his brother, J R Cortright of Shenandoah, IA, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Wolford, Sunday morning at the age of 73 years and 22 days. Joseph R Cortright was born in Luzerne County, PA March 19, 1841 and came to Dixon with his father's family in April 1862. He enlisted in Co A, 75th Ill. Inf. in 1863, serving until the close of the war. He was married to Jennie Burket, sister of the late M P Burket in 1870, and they moved to Page county, IA the following year, that community remaining their home. He is survived by five daughters and one son, all of whom, with the exception of one daughter, reside in Iowa. Four brothers, E D Cortright, of Sandwich, ILL, O H Cortright of (Wappels, NEB???) and R "P" and N A Cortright of Dixon, also survive. Wilbur and Clyde Cortright of this city will leave this evening to attend the funeral of their uncle.
