Samuel was the son of Parker & Elizabeth(Terrel) Trulock. He was one of twelve children and was a twin of James W., other siblings were: John Henry, Isaac, William W., Mary Polly, Sally, Abraham, Charlotte, Esther, Parker L, & Henry Francis.

Samuel married Elizabeth Stark on Feb 22, 1834 in Clark, IN. They had ten children: Thomas Jefferson, James Warren, Joseph Addison, Sarah Jane, Isaac Lytten, Charles Henry, Mary Catherine, Martha Ann, Elizabeth(Lizzie) Mtilda, & Adeline Marie(who was blind).

Samuel was killed in the Battle of Franklin, TN during the Civil War. After years of searching and inquires to the Office of Veteran's Affairs, his burial and final resting place is unknown. He joined the Illinois Volunteer Infantry, Company I, 72nd Regiment on Aug 14, 1862.
