Army Spc. James M. Finley, 21, of Lebanon, Mo.; assigned to the 173rd Special Troops Battalion, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Bamberg, Germany; died May 31 in Jalalabad City, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. Also killed was Pvt. Andrew J. Shields. He possessed a wonderful sense of humor and was comfortable talking with anyone he met. James was a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, and cousin, and was a very caring friend. We salute his patriotic spirit, his willingness to serve his country, and his love of family. We remember him fondly and treasure the memories he made for his family and friends. He leaves behind his parents, Wayne and Betsy as well as two brothers and two sisters. James was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Bill and Bobbye Hubbs. He died from injuries received in a roadside bombing in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, while serving in the United States Army at the age of 21.
