Billie Breakenridge wad born in Watertown, Wisconsin on December 25, 1846. He served in many capacities-newsboy, telegraph messenger, soldier, storekeeper, prospector, lumberman and lawman. In 1864 Billie participated in the savage Sand Creek Massacre as a trooper in the 3rd Colorado Cavalry. He served as deputy sheriff of Phoenix and in the Tombstone, Arizona mining district in the latter part of 1879. Then he received an appointment as a U.S. marshal, beginning a long career as a peace officer assessing and collecting taxes, arresting murderers and thieves and engaging in many shoot-outs. Billie died of a heart attack in a Tucson hospital on January 31, 1931.
