Indian Campaigns Medal of Honor Recipient. He was born in Dexter, Penobscot County, Maine. He entered the U.S. Army in Boston, Massachusetts. He served as a Sergeant in Company E, 5th U.S. Cavalry. He was awarded the CMOH for action in 1872-1873 during the Apache Campaigns. His citation reads "Gallant conduct during campaigns and engagements with the Apaches."
