Thomas J. Arihood was 19, and living in Louisa Co., Iowa, when he enlisted as a Private in the 19th Iowa Infantry on March 29, 1864. The next day he was switched, and became a Private in Co. K of the 4th Iowa Cavalry. He mustered out of the service at the end of the war along with the rest of his company on Aug 8, 1865, in Atlanta.
