OBIT: The death of Mrs. Elizabeth Stremmel, which occurred in this city yesterday morning at 11:45, was the peaceful ending of a long Christian life. Elizabeth Schramm was born April 14, 1833, in Dillonberg [sic] {Dillenburg}, Germany. In 1855 she came to the United State with quite a number of acquaintances who sought their fortune in this country, several of whom located near Rushville, and they and their descendants have proven to be some of Schuyler's most substantial citizens. In 1857 Miss Schramm was united in marriage with George Stremmel, and they commenced housekeeping in Woodstock township. There they reared a family of seven children - one son and six daughters, namely: William, now of the firm of Hammond & Stremmel of this city; Lena, deceased wife of Philip Naught; Mrs. Lon Glandon of Curtis, Neb.; Mrs. Minnie Naught, and Mrs. Margaret Paisley and Mrs. Eliza Aten, all of Woodstock township, and Mrs. Mary Kuechler of this city. Mrs. Stremmel leaves three brothers - Wm. Schramm of Courtland, Neb.; Fred Schramm of Cladonia, Neb. and Philip Schramm of Woodstock township, and one sister Mrs. Catherine Dossel of White Hall, Ill., the latter being present when she passed away. From her girlhood days Mrs. Stremmel held church membership and was a christian. While in her native land she united with the Lutheran church, and soon after coming to America she became a member of the German M. E. church near her home, five miles southwest of this city. For many years that church was an appointment for a regular pastor, and Mrs. Stremmel was among its most regular attendants. She not only enjoyed the service of the Divine Master, but she reflected His light by her every day walk in life. About fifteen years ago Mr. and Mrs. Stremmel and their three daughters moved to Rushville, occupying the residence on North Liberty street. Mr. Stremmel died in January, 1885. Here Mrs. Stremmel passed her declining years, though up to within two years ago her health had been excellent. About two years ago she began to fail, and a fortnight ago her condition became alarming. Last Saturday it was discernible that the end was not far off and her children were summoned. Yesterday morning, realizing that her Master would soon summon her, she called all her children to her bedside and bid them good bye, telling them she was not only ready but willing to go. Then she passed away as peacefully as a child goes to slumber and with a smile on her countenance. As an inheritance to her children she leaves a life of good deeds which is more than great riches. The funeral services will take place from the First M. E. church, of which deceased has been a member for several years, on Thursdays afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Wm. Brandon. The interment will take place at Rushville cemetery.
