She died Saturday, June 15, 2002.
She was born Oct. 13, 1903, in Shaw, Kan., and moved to Lubbock County in 1929. She moved to Shallowater in 1946. She married Birdie C. Coats June 2, 1925, in Denton. He died Nov. 22, 1990.
A daughter, Elizabeth Perser, died Dec. 10, 1985.
She attended schools in New Mexico, where she received her teaching certificate. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church of Shallowater.
Survivors include two sons, Charles of Lubbock and John of Mineral Wells; three daughters, Ethel Coleman of Willcox, Ariz., Gail Payne of San Angelo and Nancy Swanner of Lubbock; a brother, Joseph E. Knight of Aztec, N.M.; a sister, Catherine Christenson of Cleveland, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church of Shallowater.
