Enlisted in Company F, Georgia 45th Infantry Regiment on 4 Mar 1862 as a Private. This regiment was also sometimes called "Gray's Volunteers." On 10 July 1863 he was accidentally wounded at Potomac River, Virginia. Mustered out on 31 Jan 1864 for a disability. (Source - Ancestry, Roster of Confederate Soldiers of Georgia, 1861-1865)

He returned home to Jones County where he was appointed conscript officer. He was killed while arresting a deserter in Jones County in January 1865.
