Duncan Banner, Tues., Mar. 25, 2008
LOTTIE LAURA BEASLEY, 101, of Country Club Care, Duncan, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 22, 2008.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Bible Baptist Church, with Don Beasley officiating. Burial will be in Duncan Cemetery under direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home.
She was born April 12, 1906, in Chickasha, which was Indian Territory at that time. Her parents were William Bell and Ada Salena Baker. She was one of eight children.
She married Gerald Leroy Beasley Sr. on July 17, 1925, in Sapulpa. Her husband worked for the U.S. Post Office in Tulsa for 42 years. He preceded her in death in 1985.
Mrs. Beasley was a homemaker and a member of the Tulsa Garden Club. She had three children, Gerald Leroy Beasley Jr., M.D., of Duncan, who passed away in 1996; JoAnn Drakos, who resides in Charlottesville, Va., and Barbara Lee Webb of Hot Springs, Ark., who died in 2006.
Mrs. Beasley and her husband retired to Florida in 1971 and lived there 14 years. After his death, she moved to Duncan. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church, Rock Creek Extension Homemakers Club, and was a volunteer for Duncan Regional Hospital, working at the Remarkable Shop.
She delighted her family with her cooking, managed a vegetable and flower garden, crocheted afghans, played games with her great-grandchildren, and read her Bible daily.
She later moved to Hot Springs, Ark., living with Barbara (her daughter) and Johnny Webb. She retired from driving in her 90s and began painting and playing computer games. She proudly shared her paintings with friends, family and nursing home residents.
In 2007, she moved back to Duncan. She was a blessing and joy to all fortunate enough to be around her.
Survivors include her daughter, JoAnn Drakos of Charlottesville; a son-in-law, Johnny Webb of Hot Springs; her grandchildren, Gerald Beasley, and Kathie Beasley, both of Edmond, Don and Melanie Beasley, Betty Beasley, and Robert Beasley, all of Duncan, Kathie and John Cattano of Charlottesville, Chris Drakos of Sparta, N.J., Richard and Nancy Drakos of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Carol and Ken Holland of Flemington, N.J., and Kim and James Lambert of Jessieville, Ark.; 24 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
