A strong, honorable Christian man went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 5, 2009. Richard Milton Cropley passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Redding. CA after a long illness.
Richard was born to Robert and Vivian Cropley on March 24, 1932 in Monterey, CA.
He grew up on the Monterey Peninsula, working in his father's mill. After attending Pacific Grove High School, he spent four years in the Air Force. Richard ended up following his father and grandfather in the construction business. Dick was a master carpenter and at one time owned cabinet shops both in Santa Cruz and then in Redding. The many homes and projects he built stretch from San Diego to Portland, OR. He also taught woodworking there at Mt. Hood Community College.
While living on the Monterey Peninsula, he served as assistant Volunteer Fire Chief of Marina. He was also a member of Kiwanis International for over 25 years. He was also a long time member of Little Country Church in Redding.
Richard resided with his wife Patricia in Anderson. He leaves his children Vivian and (Bob) Schall of Houston, TX, Sandi and (Joe) Garcia of Happy Valley, CA, Gary and (Debbie) Cropley of Shasta Lake City, Dan and (Sheila) Cropley of Bath, PA and Bill and (Roxanne) Cropley of Redding, 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Step-children are Diana and (David) Parker, and Janet Prather all of Sacramento, Don and (Tona) Prather of Livermore, 12 step-grandchildren and 30 step-great grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed and always remembered by his family and many friends.
Services will be held at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Igo on Thursday at 12:45 p.m.
