James O. Burr, 88, of Oquawka, Ill., died at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at his home.
Born Feb.16, 1920, in Stronghurst, Ill., he was the son of Herbert Clinton and Blanche Priscilla Renner Burr. On March 13, 1948, he married Vera Elizabeth Perdue in Gladstone, Ill.
Mr. Burr worked at General Electric in Burlington, Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown and McKinnsey Rock Quarry. He farmed neared Gladstone and Biggsville, Ill. He worked as a part-time custodian and school bus driver at Gladstone High School and Biggsville Grade School. He attended Gladstone High School. He served in the Air Force during World War II and the Korean War and served in the Reserves. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Burlington and attended Faith Bible Church in Oquawka. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
Survivors include his wife; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Norma Harden of Media, Ill.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two adopted sons and two sisters.
The graveside funeral for Mr. Burr will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Carman Cemetery, Carman, Ill.
