Lennarde C. Blaisdell, 89, of Umpqua, Oregon, one of the last of the Jet Pioneers of 1942 passed away at the Roseburg Veterans Hospital.
He was born in Massachusetts to Lennarde C. and Olive E. (Fogg) Blaisdell.
Mr. Blaisdell was one of 60+ men on the Secret Project MX 397, The Bell XP-59A Airacomet and the General Electric 1-A Engine in Lynn, Massachusetts. Lennarde was one of four men still living from this group until his death. He worked for Norton Air Base testing jet engines. He tested many of the famous test pilots' engines, who later went on to be astronauts.
He married Irene Williams on August 24, 1940 in Los Vegas, Nevada. After he retired from Edwards they went of live in El Cajon, California, They ministered for 19 years in rest homes in El Cajon. In 1995 they moved to Yoncalla, Oregon.
When Irene passed away on March 13, 2000, Lennarde moved in with his daughter, Sharon and her husband, David in Umpqua. Lennarde loved to fish, but he never seemed to catch the big one! He loved his daughters and was so proud to be a great-great-grandpa.
He is survived by his daughters, Beverly Faust of Wilber, Oregon, Sharon Loughead of Umpqua, Oregon and Donna Nelson of Santa Rosa, California; 14 grandchildern; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; two brothers, Rolland Blaisdell of San Bernadino, California and Worthy Blaisdell of Mexico, Missouri; and one grandson of Germany.
Burial services were held at the Roseburg Veterans Cemetery.
A memorial service was held at the Sutherlin First Assembly of God. Reverend David Bates officiated at both services.
