Oscar McCollister Smith is the son of William Thornton Sanford Smith and Mary Elizabeth (Minear) Smith. On September 26, 1900, he married Tabitha Mildred Pryor, daughter of Amos Fred and Bertha Jane (Teter) Pryor in Granger, Scotland County, Missouri. They were the parents of Blanche E., Wilbur Frederick, Bertha Elizabeth, Icyl Pearl, and Thelma Azilene Smith. The family lived in several locations in southeastern Iowa and northeastern Missouri due to Oscar's work with the CB&Q railroad as a station agent and telegraph operator.

Oscar McCollister Smith of 126 Blondeau street, died at 12:40 o'clock this morning at Graham hospital where he had been a patient for only a few hours. Although he had been ill for several years his condition did not become serious until yesterday. Born July 17, 1874 in Piatt county, Ill., he was the son of Thornton S. and Mary E. Smith and spent most of his married life in Keokuk. Formerly a railroad telegrapher, he was a clerk in the Brazelton hotel at Mt. Pleasant until his retirement a few years ago. In 1901 in Scotland county, Mo., he married Tabitha Mildred Pryor. He was a member of the Trinity Methodist church and of the Order of railroad elegraphers for more than 51 years. Surviving are a son, Wilbur F. Smith of the U.S. marine corps in El Toro, Santa Ana, Calif.; four daughters, Mrs. Blanche E. Case of Garvey, Calif., Mrs. Paul Symmonds of Carthage, Ill., Mrs. Howard Bank and Mrs. Clyde Teller of Koekuk; two brothers, W. R. Smith of Keokuk and Vincent Smith of Kansas; a sister, Mrs. Fred Cunningham of Edina, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death as did two brothers Newton and Eugene, and a sister, Mrs. Charles Unger. The body will remain at the DeJong Funeral home until time for the service which will be announced later on arrival of the son and daughter. Burial will be made in Arbela, Mo.
