LINDA CAROL MAY
Pearl Child Dies When Hit By Car
Linda Carol May, 10 year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll N. May of Pearl, was killed instantly at 2:20 Friday afternoon as she was struck by a car in front of her home on Pearson Road. Linda Carol was a fifth grade student at Pearl. She had ridden home from school with a neighbor and, as she got out of the car and walked from behind it, she was struck down. Highway Patrolmen Ray Gentry and J. B. Yearwood, who investigated, said the car which struck Linda Carol was driven by R. C. Matlock, Jackson negro. Patrolmen are said to have charged Matlock with driving a car with improper brakes, but up to Wednesday morning no other charges had been filed.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Baldwin funeral home in Jackson with the Rev. L. T. Greer, pastor of the Pearson Baptist Church officiating.
Linda Carol is survived by her parents; her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Torrence of Brandon; and her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Edna C. May of Monroe, LA.
