Ophelia was the first wife of Andrew "Waun" Branum. She died of Scarlet fever. The story is that she was one of the Florance Alabama "Coffees". She was shuned when she married Waun because she married below her station. Ophila received word that her family members were sick with scarlet fever and she went home to assist them. She also got scarlet fever and died. It is also said she took with her a new baby who also died of the disease. Waun received a letter from the Coffees stating she and the baby died and he was never to contact them again. She and Waun had two other children at the time of her death Willie who was four and Catherine who was 18 months. Waun raised Willie but did not feel he could care for a baby so he sent Catherine to Golden Texas to be raised by her Aunt Molly.
