"CANFIELD, Ohio - Robert E. Mort Jr., 5486 Woodland Place, formerly of Hermitage, died Wednesday of injuries suffered in an automobile accident while, traveling on business in Minnesota. He was 48.
Mr. Mort was born Nov. 8, 1947, in Youngstown to Robert E. Mort Sr. and Donna Haessly Mort.
He graduated from Hickory High School, Hermitage, and Mr. Mort attended John Carroll University, Cleveland, and Youngstown State University.
He was a registered real estate agent. He was self-employed in sales in Mort Enterprises, Canfield. He had been a corporate officer and served in various management capacities in his family's former business, Inter-Lock Steel Co., which had offices in Hermitage and East Palestine, Ohio. His career focused on serving the wood truss industry, where he was instrumental in promoting not only the industry but also development of many relationships through his dedication. He was widely known in the industry.
Mr. Mort was a member of Old North Baptist Church, Canfield; member and past president of Classic Chevy Club; and a member of Harley Davidson Club of Youngstown. He was a licensed Coast Guard captain. Mr. Mort was a sponsor of Cleveland Museum of Art and Rock `n' Roll Hall of Fame. He established the Columbiana County Mental Health "Mort Foundation" for funding children's teams.
Surviving are: his wife, the former Susan Marina, whom he married in September 1993; three daughters, Monica Kathleen, Lori Lynn, and Amanda Joy Mort; and a stepdaughter, Marina Hayes, all of Canfield; two sisters; Patricia Mort Slaven, Sharpsville, and Mary K Haessly, Sharon; and a brother, Thomas A. Mort, Kingston, R.I. .
