Born in Oakport Township. Attended Oak Mound School. U. S. Marines WWII. Wounded on Saipan Island and was awared the purple heart in 1945. He was killed on Iwo Jima Island. Gene was a lifelong member of Oak Mound Congregational Church and was baptized and confirmed there. (Associational quote: "We'll call me Oscar and you'll be Louie").
On Sunday at 3:15 p. m. in the First Congregational church memorial services will be held for Marine Private First Class Eugene Andree, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Andree, rural Moorhead, who was killed on Iwo Jima. He was born on March 3, 1924, and attended Oak Mound and Moorhead High school. He entered service in November, 1943, and served at Camp Pendleton, Calif., and Hawaii prior to participation in the battles at Saipan and Tinian. He was wounded on June 13, 1944, on Saipan and received the purple heart. Surviving are his parents and two sisters, Mrs. Roy Brendemuhl and Miss Mildred Andree. The American Legion will attend in a body and Reverend N. W. Klooze will officiate at the service. Merlyn Akers will be soloist and Dorothy Deems will be organist. A. J. Wright and Sons funeral home will be in charge of arrangements.
