Mathias "Matt" Haukap was born Feb. 15, 1911 in Germantown to John Frank and Elizabeth (Albers) Haukap; they preceded him in death.
He married Dorothy Albers on January 23, 1940 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Germantown; she preceded him in death on December 9, 1998.
Also preceded in death by a daughter, Irlene Varel.
Brothers Bernard, Herman and Lawrence Haukap; a sister Dorothy Koehling; a son-in-law Tom Haake.
Surviving is a son, Roger Haukap of Damiansville, two daughters, Marilyn Haake of Germantown and Francelia "Francie" Huegen of Albers. Also surviving is son-in-law Edwin "Ep" Varel of Carlyle, sisters Agnes Eversgerd of Germantown, Marie Huff of St. Louis, and Wilhelmina Pfitzer of Florida.
Matt possessed many wonderful talents, which he passed down to his children and grandchildren. He could fix anything he put his hands on and his vast knowledge was impressive.
Matt made a career as a plumber and shop foreman at Scott Air Force Base. He enjoyed a long retirement and a happy life. His interests included playing cards, woodworking, hunting, gardening and his grandchildren.
