Frances Mae Branstetter a life long resident of St. James, MO, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at Heritage Park Nursing Home, Rolla, MO. She was 85 years old. She had suffered with cancer for several years.

Mae was born to Lawrence Calvin and Frances Francisco (Nee, Bisso) Hammers on November 16, 1920, at Mitchel Ave, in St. Louis, MO. She attended grade school through 8th grade at First Creek School, in Hermann, MO. While living in Redbird, MO, Mae completed her high school education at John F. Hodge High School in St. James in 1939. She studied nursing under Dr. Scott in the St. James area. Her family moved back to St. Louis due to her father's illness. There she worked at Famous Barr and then at Small Arms.

On December 05, 1942, while he was on a week end pass from Ft. Know, KY, Lawrence Gilbert Branstetter, her high school sweetheart, married her at the clergy's home at Bellevue Ave., Maplewood, MO. While Lawrence was still in the service, and after the birth of their first child, David, Mae worked at the Navy Plant on Forest Park Ave. in St. Louis, MO. In December 1945, Mae, Lawrence and David moved to the Branstetter Farm to help maintain the family farm. To this union three children were born: David Lawrence, Nellie May, and Amelia Rose.

Mae was devoted to her family, her farm and animals. She would always lend a helping hand and a hug. She enjoyed life, loved to dance, hava a good time, and a good tease. She was a hard working farm wife with passion for what she believed in. She loved all kinds of music. Her favorite actors was John Wayne, favorite holiday was Christmas, and her favorite food was strawberry pie. Mae is a long time member of the Auxilary VFW #6133 at Owensville, MO.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, foster son Otto Lee Schroeder, and grandchildren, James Lawrence Eugene Branstetter and Andrew Schroeder.

She is survived by her children: David and Faye Branstetter of St. James: Nellie May and Max Regier of Newton, Kansas: and Amelia and James Gaylord of Bland, MO: Also surviving are her grandchildren: Rhonda Hays, Lisa Hartman, David Branstetter Jr., Ericka Olsen, Lou Ellen Stubby, Ernest and Edward Schroeder, Julie Brand and Edith Irene Mabe: 20 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.

She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Funeral services will be at James & Gahr Chapel, St. James on Friday, June 16, 2006 at 10:00 AM. Pallbearers will be Larry Aston, David Branstetter Jr., Eric Olsen, Joey Shuey, Dennie Wayne Branstetter and Thomas Bisso. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Branstetter and Roger Ebinger. Burial will follow at the Branstetter Cemetery, St. James. A visitation for family and friends of Mae Branstetter will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2006 from 6:00-8:00 PM. Memorial contributions can be made to American Cancer Society or the Diabetes Society.

All arrangements are under the direction of James & Gahr Mortuary, St. James.
