About 1929/1930, Roy married in Oklahoma and had one son named Jesse (1931-1996). The marriage ended in divorce, and Roy left Oklahoma and was working on the construction of a dam in Wyoming when World War II began. He was recruited into the "SeaBees," the U.S. Navy Construction Battalion (CBs). He was honorably discharged at the end of the war, and worked in construction in South America for a couple of years. Roy returned to the United States to settle in Las Vegas, Clark County, Nevada, as a civil worker at the Nellis Air Force Base.
On July 4, 1959, at the Grace Community Church in Boulder City, Nevada, Roy married a friend of many, many years, Katharine Jacobson-Olson, and they settled into her home in Boulder City. Katharine was instrumental in reconnecting Roy with his brothers, sisters, and son.
Roy died January 9, 1999, at a hospice in Las Vegas, Nevada. Katharine had died previously in 1973. They are buried side-by-side in the Boulder City Cemetery.
