Shirley Ann Gartmann, age 52 of Whitewater, died Sat., May 29, 1999. She was born Aug. 17, 1946, the daughter of Alvera Gartmann-Igl and Charles Gartmann. Shirley married Robert Siemann on Feb. 14, 1981, in Madison. She received a PhD from UW-Madison, an MS from UW-Stevens Point, an MS from UW-Whitewater, and a BA from Domnican College. She was a Professor Emeritus in Curriculum and Instruction at UW-Whitewater. She was a dedicated and loving wife and sister. She was a natural born teacher, musician, and technologist. She was an avid Packer fan and enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling, home designing, and animals, especially turtles. She fully lived the ideals of teaching and was always ready to provide whatever was necessary for her students.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Siemann of Whitewater; her mother, Alvera Gartmann-Igl; four brothers and sisters; a sister-in-law; father-in-law; and nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her father, a sister, Donna; and her mother-in-law, Charlotte Siemann.
Services were held at Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church, Oregon on Thurs., June 3, with Fr. Tony Schumacher presiding. Gunderson Funeral Home, Oregon, is assisting the family.
