Accidently Shot Sunday Night By
Jacob Olejniczak.

Leslie Brice, newly elected magistrate for the fourth district of Fulton County, died Monday morning between two and three o'clock as the result of a wound accidently inflicted by Jacok Olejniczak
Jacok Olejniczak Sunday night at about seven o'clock.
The tragedy accurred at the store of Lattus Bros. in the lower bottom. According to an account of the shooting given a Courier representative, Olejniczak was in the store when Brice walked in and asked for a cigarette. Olejniczak reached up on a shelf and got a 38. revolver and saying "I'll give you a cigarette" discharged the gun accidentally, the shot entering Brice in the left side just about the hip, puncturing his bladder and entering the stomach where it lodged. Brice fell back in the arms of Ben Lattus, a brother-in-law, who laid him on the floor. The sight of the injured man enraged Lattus who said to Olejniczak "You can't kill my brother-in-law" whereupon the latter ran. He is reported to have come to Hickman and had supper and breakfast at Pendleton's Café. He had not been seen up to the time of the funeral, except on the two occasions at meals. Brice said before he died that they were the best of friends and the shooting was accidental.
Brice was removed to his home and Drs. J.C. Morrison, J.M. Hubbard and H.R. Prather, and the county nurses, Mrs. Sims and Miss Owens were summoned. An operation was performed in the hope of saving his life, but he died shortly after regaining consciousness from the anaesthetic.
The funeral was held from the Catholic Church Tuesday morning. Father O'Sullivan conducting the services, and interment was had at the city cemetery.
Olejniczak is a Pollack, and has been in America only since the latter part of July.
Brice was an industrious and well liked young man among those who knew him, having been nominated by the Democratic party for Magistrate of the Fourth Magisterial District in August, and having been elected without opposition in the general election Tuesday of last week.
His death will necessitate the appointment of a magistrate to fill his place in the fiscal court of the county by Governor Morrow.
