Theodore "Ted" Penrose Leonhard III, 63, of Harrisburg, died Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.
Born October 3, 1946 in Lancaster, he was the son of Theodore Penrose and Josephine C. (Charleston) Leonhard, Jr.
He was a 1965 graduate of Central Dauphin High School.
Mr. Leonhard retired on his 55th birthday in 2001 after 35 years of service with the U.S. Post Office.
He served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1969 and retired as a Staff Sergeant with the U.S. Army in 1995 after 27 years of service.
He had worked for Royer's Flowers and Gifts for the past seven years.
Ted was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 148 and a member of American Legion Post 272. He was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and son who adored his children and grandchildren.
On November 9, 1990, in Harrisburg, he wed the former S. Jean Carson, who survives. Also surviving is a son, SSgt. Kevin H. Leonhard of Pine Grove; a daughter, Laura J. Thomas (Chris) of Harrisburg; a stepdaughter, Athena M. Meyers (Noah) of Buxton, Maine; his mother, Josephine C. Leonhard of Harrisburg; six grandchildren, Jenica L. and Cordelia L. Thomas, both of Harrisburg, Dakota R. and Alxandria N. Leonhard, both of Pine Grove, and Nathaniel J. and Timothy A. Meyers, both of Buxton, Maine.
He was preceded in death by his father and a grandson, David T. Leonhard.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Friday at the Zimmerman-Auer Funeral Home, Inc., 4100 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg, with Major Max Furman, U.S. Army, officiating. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the hour of services.
Interment will follow with military honors at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
