El Dorado, Kan. — Mildred M. Auer, 104, of El Dorado, died Sunday, July 4, 2010. She was born on Aug. 21, 1905 in Spring Township to William and Sena (Miller) Auer. She lived in Butler County her entire life.
She was a teacher for 46 1/2 years – two years in rural District 137, one year in Coventry, England as an exchange teacher and 43 1/2 years in El Dorado District 490. While teaching in El Dorado, she taught fourth grade at Jefferson Elementary School for 12 years, several years as elementary music and art supervisor, and finally as elementary music supervisor. She retired in 1971.
Mildred received her bachelor's degree from Wichita State University and took graduate work at Indiana University, Denver University, Colorado Teachers College, Emporia State and Wichita State University.
Mildred was a member of the First Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Retired Teachers Association and was elected to life membership on the Board of Directors of the El Dorado Community Concert Association.
Survivors include: four nieces, Jane Compton of Prairie Village, Kan., Janeth Leavitt of Alhambra, Calif., Cheryl Williams of Newton, and Mary Lou Auer of Topeka, and one surviving nephew, John Compton of Overland Park.
Mildred was preceded in death by her father and mother, four brothers, two sisters and one nephew.
Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Sunset Lawn Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the First United Methodist Church in El Dorado and Partners In Education.
