STAUNTON - Madeline (Lessley) Ashby, 88, widow of Glenn Alexander Ashby, of 1809 Orange St., Staunton, and a former resident of Saint Luke's Adult Care for 2 1/2 years, died Tuesday afternoon (Jan. 30, 2007) at her residence. She was born June 21, 1918, in Augusta County, a daughter of the late Sandy and Molly Lessley.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, Glenn Alexander Ashby on May 6, 1995; and a grandson, Christopher M. Brown on November 1, 1997.
Family members include two daughters, Pamela Mader Mitchell and her husband Kevin, of Staunton, and Glenna Campbell and her husband, Raymond of Fishersville; two grandchildren, Lessley B. Mader of Greensboro, N.C., and Alexander Glenn Mitchell of Staunton; two stepgranddaughters, Heather Campbell and Ashlea Campbell; a special niece, Peggy Moore Brust of Maryland; a special great nephew, Robert H. Conquest Jr. of Maryland; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday (Feb. 2, 2007) at Victory Worship Center by the Rev. Ray Eppard. Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be John G. Mader Jr., Kevin Mitchell, Robert Conquest Jr., Dr. H. Lynn Moore, Michael Hupman, Alexander Glenn Mitchell, Edward Jack, and Meredith "Jim" Ashby Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Saint Luke's.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 1, 2007) at her residence, 1809 Orange St.
